The women’s 100-meter final at the USA Olympic track and field trials will punch some of the sport’s earliest tickets to Paris, and it would be quite a surprise if one of them didn’t belong to Sha’Carri Richardson.
Richardson won the event at the Olympic trials three years ago, but a suspension after she tested positive for THC kept her from running in Tokyo. It was a monumentally disappointing setback for the star, but it hasn’t slowed her down.
Richardson won gold at the 2023 World Championships, running the 100-meter in 10.65 seconds — just 0.16 seconds off the world record and 0.04 seconds off the gold medal-winning time run by Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah in Tokyo.
Jamaica swept the podium in the 100-meter final at the Olympics in 2021, but Richardson is among the American women hoping to take it back after only one American — Teahna Daniels — reached the final three years ago.
