Spring football is nearing its pinnacle just as the weather is heating up.
The UFL title game is on the horizon. But before we reach the biggest stage of the (other) football season, there are a pair of conference belts up for grabs.
One of those matchups, the Stallions’ home clash with the Panthers, pits a pair of USFL heavyweights against one another. Birmingham (9-1) is the UFL’s best side, blitzing its opponents to the tune of a 26.5-point per-game average. The Stallions are led by former Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez. Martinez accounted for more than 2,200 yards of total offense and 15 total touchdowns (15 passing, three rushing). He figures to be a threat — if not the top candidate — for the MVP award at season’s end.
Unstoppable force should meet immovable object when Birmingham faces Michigan, however, because the Panthers (7-3) are spearheaded by Defensive Player of the Year Breeland Speaks, who recorded 9.5 sacks in 10 games this campaign. Michigan possesses the third-best defense in the USFL, surrendering just 19.0 points per game. Styles make matchups. And this one figures to be about as enticing as it can get.
