Seize the Grey kept Mystik Dan from winning the Triple Crown in 2024. Both horses will battle in New York hoping to earn wins in multiple legs of the Triple Crown.
It has been since 2014 that a horse won at least two legs of the Triple Crown. California Chrome won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness but placed fourth in the Belmont.
Mystik Dan will be looking to be the first horse since 1995 to win the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, but not Preakness. Thunder Gulch in 1995 won the book-end Triple Crown races, becoming only the 11th horse to win the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.
Should Seize the Grey claim another win, he would be the first horse since Afleet Alex in 2005 to win only at Preakness and Belmont. Afleet Alex was only the 18th horse to win the final two Triple Crown races.
But there will be more than Mystik Dan and Seize the Grey competing at Saratoga Springs, the temporary home of the Belmont Stakes while Belmont Park is under construction. Eight other horses, including favorite Sierra Leone, will be vying to make it three different Triple Crown winners in 2024.
