The Chiefs want to threepeat as Super Bowl winners and the 2024 NFL Draft is the next big opportunity for Kansas City to add to its championship aspirations.
The team has been a little quiet this offseason in terms of acquisitions but ranked highly in spending after the Chiefs re-signed defensive tackle Chris Jones and other internal free agents.
Kansas City did sign former first-round wide receiver Marquise Brown to upgrade Patrick Mahomes’ pass-catching corps but traded away starting cornerback L’Jarius Sneed in a cost-saving move. There are also major questions surrounding 2023 third-round receiver Rashee Rice, who faces several criminal charges stemming from an offseason hit-and-run incident with his car.
The Chiefs can go in a few different directions in the draft depending on how comfortable the team feels about certain positional groups as well as their ability to compete against the best AFC teams again in 2024. And as KC picks at the end of most of the rounds, the team will focus on players that fit their system rather than just grab the best available players.

Chiefs NFL Draft needs
- Left tackle: The Chiefs don’t have a reliable starting left tackle currently on the roster after Donovan Smith left in free agency. While Kansas City could turn Wanya Morris, the Chiefs could also add a player in the draft with starting potential who could push or take Morris’ role on the offensive line.
- Wide receiver: This was the Chiefs’ worst positional group in 2023, and yet they still won the Super Bowl. Rice will be back despite his legal issues and Brown is a better player than Marques Valdes-Scantling, but this is still a shallow unit. Justin Watson, Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney are not consistent enough to garner as many targets as they would unless the Chiefs add another player to the mix.
- Cornerback: Sneed is gone, so the Chiefs have depth issues at the least and a void at starting outside cornerback at the worst. Joshua Williams and Jaylen Watson are expected to see increased snaps behind Trent McDuffie unless the Chiefs bring in more help in the secondary.
