Unbeaten heavyweight contender Jared “Big Baby” Anderson will return from an eight-month layoff to take on Ryad Merhy at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi on April 13. The 10-round bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast by ESPN+ in the U.S.

Anderson (16-0, 15 KOs) is considered by many as the future of the heavyweight division. However, two highly publicized brushes with the law in recent months have done nothing for his reputation and he’s looking to get himself back on the right track.
“I have a better IQ than Merhy,” offered Anderson recently. “You have to have a high IQ to do this. I have one of the best IQs in the heavyweight division. So, make sure you watch the little things. Make sure you watch for the details.”
Merhy (32-2, 26 KOs) could provide a stern test. While the Belgian star has suffered setbacks to Arsen Goulamirian, in a cruiserweight world title fight, and Kevin Lerena, he has transitioned well into the heavyweight division. In December, Merhy scored an upset win over former Olympic champ Tony Yoka.
