It’s no secret that plastic surgery is very common in South Korea. Not only do many citizens get some kind of work done, but cosmetic tourism also brings many people from other countries to South Korea in order to have procedures performed. From double eyelid surgery to nose jobs, implants, Botox, and all kinds of other treatments, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to many that South Korea is among the countries with the highest number of cosmetic surgery cases.
In fact, according to a recent study, South Korea ranks at #1 in this regard, with approximately 8.90 out of 1,000 people going under the knife at some point. Additionally, about 25% of women between the ages of 19 and 29 have had plastic surgery, and one-fifth to one-third of women in Seoul have had cosmetic procedures done on them.
Here’s a look at the rest of the top 10 countries, and a few others, who rank highest in plastic surgery cases.
Interestingly, Argentina is a close second behind South Korea, with 8.81 out of 1,000 people having some kind of cosmetic procedure done. Brazil and Columbia aren’t too far behind either, at 7.62 and 7.26 per 1,000 people each going under the knife.
