There might be two MLB games already in the books for 2024 thanks to the Seoul Series, but make no mistake: This is Opening Day.
Thursday will officially open up the season, with most of the 30 teams in action — but not all, as several teams announced weather-related postponements. Still, there will be shortage of excitement.
Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers will make their stateside debut after playing two games against the Padres in South Korea to begin the 2024 season. But Ohtani won’t be the only new face in a new place.
Juan Soto will slot into a lineup with Aaron Judge and the Yankees as they face the Astros. And in Baltimore, Corbin Burnes will make his Oriole debut after an offseason trade from the Brewers.
In the primetime slot, the reigning champion Rangers will face off against the Cubs. That game should have no shortage of excitement as Wyatt Langford makes his MLB debut for Texas alongside stars Corey Seager and Evan Carter, while the Cubs will bring back Cody Bellinger to a lineup is taking aim at an NL Central title.

3:59 p.m.: Santander hits a sacrifice fly to push the Orioles’ lead to 5-1.
3:55 p.m.: Now Mountcastle flips a base hit into shallow right to put runners on the corners. This Orioles lineup is cooking early.
3:53 p.m.: Make it back-to-back two-run innings for the Orioles as Rutschman drives a base hit over the middle to score both Urias and Mateo and push the lead to 4-1.

3:51 p.m.: The Orioles are threatening again in the bottom of the second. Ramon Urias reaches on an error by Rendon and Jorge Mateo sneaks a double down the left-field line to put two in scoring position for Henderson.
3:34 p.m.: Hays struck out, then Jordan Westburg lines a base hit into center to drive in Rutschman and give the Orioles a 2-1 lead.

3:30 p.m.: Santander hits a slow roller to third. Rendon throws to second to try for the double play, but Santander is safe at first on the fielder’s choice. Austin Hays batting now with runners in the corner and one out.
3:28 p.m.: Mountcastle walks and the Orioles have the bases loaded with no one out for Anthony Santander.
3:26 p.m.: Gunnar Henderson walks to lead off the bottom of the first, then Adley Rutschman bloops a single into shallow right to put runners on the corners with no one out for Ryan Mountcastle.
3:19 p.m.: Mike Trout has the first home run of the season as he launches a slider from Burnes 402 feet to left-center to give the Angels a 1-0 lead, but Burnes gets the next out to end the half inning.

11:30 a.m.: There’s no guarantee Thursday’s scheduled contest between the Angels and Orioles will go on as scheduled. There’s plenty of inclement weather swirling around Charm City ahead of the game’s scheduled 3:05 p.m. ET first pitch. For what it’s worth, it appears that such conditions should taper off as the day wears on. But certainly bears noting.
11:00 a.m.: The Orioles will hold a minute of silence for the six migrant construction workers presumed dead after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in Baltimore, per reports.
Nationals at Reds
4:41 p.m.: Nick Martini blasts a no-doubt shot to right field to extend Cincinnati’s lead to 3-0.
