A man was in for a surprise of a lifetime when he woke up with a strange new tattoo.
An unnamed tourist went viral earlier this month after the results of a night of debauchery were unveiled. He was no stranger to tattoos, sporting different designs on his neck, arms, and chest. This time, however, he had no recollection of when and how he got a tattoo with Thai characters inked on his chest.
As a native English speaker, he had no idea what the text, “ฉันล่อกระเทย,” meant.
Bewildered, he asked the Facebook group Love Thailand filled with foreigners like him about it.
Can someone translate, please? Woke up with this on my chest.
— Tourist
They offered inaccurate translations such as “I copy hermaphrodites,” “I tease transvestites,” and even, “I am a lizard.”
Thai social media users fortunately stepped up soon after to share the actual translation of the tattoo.
I had sex with a ladyboy.
— Translation of the tourist’s tattoo
“Ladyboy” is a term used to describe transgender women in Cambodia, Laos, and famously, Thailand. The latter Southeast Asian country calls them “Kathoey,” and they are known for naturally integrating these members of the LGBTQ+ community into their everyday lives.
It is not clear how the owner of the new tattoo responded to the correct translation.
