One of the Premier League’s greatest rivalries has overflowed into the FA Cup quarterfinals as Manchester United host nearby Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
It is just the 11th time in history that these two historically linked clubs will match up in this competition, but the second in the last four years after United won a 3-2 thriller in the 2020/21 fourth round. Despite these two sides featuring significant turnover in recent years, four of the five goals in that match were scored by players still at the club.
Both sides are struggling mightily with injuries this season, but while Jurgen Klopp has kept the Liverpool ship under full sail in the Premier League title race despite the missing players, Erik ten Hag has fought just to keep Manchester United from sinking beneath the waves entirely.
While Liverpool may be tempted to prioritise other competitions in various circumstances, the Reds surely won’t give up the chance to challenge Man United for a spot in the FA Cup semifinals. Meanwhile, United will know the FA Cup is, once again, their best shot at a trophy this season.

Man United vs Liverpool prediction, odds
- Moneyline lean: Man United (+290)
- Score prediction: Man United 2-1 Liverpool
Due to their gap in the Premier League standings, Liverpool boast a strong pre-match expectation to emerge from this match with a spot in the FA Cup semifinals, sending Manchester United to defeat.
Yet counting out the Red Devils here would be foolhardy. While their injury list is significant, it’s not quite the extent of Liverpool’s, and as Jurgen Klopp performs his magic amidst the crisis, the absentee list must be taken into account.
Finally, Manchester United have been much better at home both this season and beyond, and Old Trafford will do its best to lift the Red Devils. For all of United’s struggles in the post-Ferguson era, and all of Liverpool’s recent dominance overall, United have won seven out of 13 at home against Liverpool across all competitions since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in May of 2013, while suffering defeat in just three of those games.

Man United vs Liverpool best bet
- Pick: Mohamed Salah anytime goal scorer
- Odds: +170 (BetMGM)
Whether Liverpool win or lose this match, Mohamed Salah is sure to have his say. The Egyptian has scored more goals against Manchester United than any other club, bagging 12 goals in just 13 matches against the Red Devils. Looking even closer, nine of those 12 goals have come in his last seven games against United, as he terrorizes Liverpool’s most hated rivals in recent years regardless of venue.
Salah’s duck last time out in the scoreless draw back in August was his first game against United without a goal, and he appears to have returned to full fitness following his recent injury. He managed three shots and six touches in the penalty area in just 29 minutes off the bench against Man City in their recent draw, looking up for a late-season charge.
Man United vs Liverpool prop bet
- Pick: Diogo Dalot to be booked
- Odds: +310 (FanDuel)
Diogo Dalot has been one of Manchester United’s standout players in the last few months, proving steady as the walls crumble around him. Yet he could be troubled mightily in this match.
Reports seem to indicate that Aaron Wan-Bissaka is pushing for a return from his leg injury after missing significant time, and if he does see the field, it could push Dalot to the left, his less natural side.
Add in history against the Reds, and the situation gets even clearer. Dalot has been booked three times in his last three games against Liverpool, including a pair in their last meeting which saw him sent off in the 90th minute.
