ETIHAD STADIUM, MANCHESTER — Manchester City and Newcastle United meet for the fourth time this season in Saturday’s FA Cup quarterfinal showdown.
Pep Guardiola’s treble winners won both league encounters by a single goal — 1-0 on this ground in August and 3-2 in a January thriller at St James’ Park.
Newcastle ended City’s interest in the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 third-round victory last September but Guardiola’s men remain in contention for all three of the major competitions they won last season.
By contrast, Newcastle are without a trophy since 1955, when they beat City in the FA Cup final.

Man City vs Newcastle live updates, highlights, and commentary
1 hr 20 mins before kickoff: Team news will be along in the next 20 minutes. All eyes will be on whether Anthony Gordon is fit to start for Newcastle. The former Everton winger has caught the eye this season and was rewarded with a first senior England call-up this week. However, he went off injured during Monday’s Premier League defeat to Chelsea. Initial fears that Gordon might be set for an extended spell on the sidelines proved to be wide of the mark and he is thought to be in line to feature today.

1 hr 40 mins before kickoff: As the absolutely incredible scenes at Molineux have just demonstrated, you shouldn’t take anything for granted in the FA Cup. Well, apart from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s team are aiming for a sixth successive semifinal appearance. You can probably take them for granted a little bit. City’s involvement in the Carabao Cup was ended by Newcastle this season and this is the last shot at having something to show for their campaign for Eddie Howe’s men. Surely they leave it all out on the field at the Etihad Stadium today.
