Conference tournament week is here.
Houston, UConn and Purdue are engaged in a tight race for the No. 1 overall seed, but there are some challengers waiting on the other lines.
North Carolina, Tennessee and Arizona are battling for the final No. 1 seed heading into their respective conference tournaments, and Kentucky – which has moved up a line each of the last two weeks – might just be the hottest team in the country.
The conference tournaments will decide who wins those lines, and a lot can change from here to Selection Sunday. Sporting News will update our March Madness bracket predictions daily from here until then to get you ready for the 2024 NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
This year’s Final Four is April 6-8 at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix.
UConn, Houston, Purdue and Tennessee are our No. 1 seeds. Right now our last four in are Mississippi State, New Mexico, Virginia and St. John’s. Our first four out are Pitt, Indiana State, Providence and Texas A&M.

No. 1 Seeds
*Houston (28-3, 15-3 Big 12)
Resume: Net: 1, KenPom: 1. Houston has won nine in a row, and a 76-46 victory against Kansas pushed the Cougars’ Quad 1 record to 13-3. That should be enough to push Houston to the No. 1 overall seed heading into the Big 12 tournament.
*UConn (28-3, 18-2 Big East)
Resume: Net: 3, KenPom: 2. The Huskies breezed into the Big East tournament with a 74-60 victory against Providence. Guard Tristen Newton averages 15.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.
*Purdue (28-3, 17-3 Big Ten)
Resume: Net: 2, KenPom: 3. The Boilermakers dominated in the stretch run of Big Ten play, and Zach Edey averaged 29 points and 11.2 rebounds in Purdue’s last five games. The Boilermakers will look to repeat as Big Ten tournament champions.
*Tennessee (24-7, 14-4 SEC)
Resume: Net: 5, KenPom: 5. The Vols lost 85-81 to Kentucky in the regular-season finale, part of a stretch of four straight games against ranked opponents. Dalton Knecht averaged 29.5 points per game in that stretch. Will the Vols hold off North Carolina for the No. 1 seed?
No. 2 Seeds
*North Carolina (25-6, 17-3 ACC)
Resume: Net: 7, KenPom: 8. ACC Net rankings will be a hot topic heading into the conference tournaments, but the Tar Heels are in the mix for the final No. 1 seed. North Carolina closed the regular season with a six-game winning streak. How many chances will they have to improve on a 7-4 record in Quad 1?

*Arizona (24-7, 15-5 Pac-12)
Resume: Net: 4, KenPom: 6. Don’t count Arizona out for the last No. 1 seed. The Wildcats have an 8-3 record in Quad 1 – which is one game better than the Tar Heels and Volunteers. The 78-65 loss to USC in the regular-season finale was a missed opportunity.
Marquette (23-8, 14-6 Big East)
Resume: Net: 14, KenPom: 13. Marquette split two games without Tyler Kolek (oblique) and has a lower-ranking combination than the other No. 2 seeds. The Golden Eagles will need to win at least one game in the Big East tournament to stay here.
Iowa State (24-7, 13-5 Big 12)
Resume: Net: 9, KenPom: 11. The Cyclones lost 65-58 in the Big 12 regular-season finale, and it’s a toss-up with Baylor for the final No. 2 seed. The teams could potentially meet in the Big 12 semifinals on Saturday.
No. 3 Seeds
Baylor (22-9, 11-7 Big 12)
Resume: Net: 14, KenPom: 14. A 78-68 loss to Texas Tech likely keeps the Bears on this line heading into the Big 12 tournament. It will take at least one – maybe two – victories to get on that No. 2 line.
Duke (24-7, 15-5 ACC)
Resume: Net: 10, KenPom: 7. Duke is 5-4 in Quad 1, and they missed a chance to bump up a line in the regular-season finale loss to North Carolina. The good news for coach Jon Scheyer? The Blue Devils do not have a loss outside of Quad 2.
CONFERENCE TOURNEY BRACKETS: ACC | Big East | Big Ten | Big 12 | Pac-12 | SEC
Creighton (23-8, 14-6 Big East)
Resume: Net: 11, KenPom: 9. Trey Alexander’s buzzer-beater gave the Bluejays a 69-67 victory at Villanova on Saturday. Creighton closed the regular season with seven victories in their last eight games.
Kentucky (23-8, 13-5 SEC)
Resume: Net: 19, KenPom: 17. Too soon? The Wildcats averaged 99.4 points per game through a five-game winning streak to end the regular season, and that included a 85-81 victory at Tennessee. John Calipari has this team trending upward fast.
