Arsenal will aim to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool when they host Newcastle at Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s side suffered a Champions League setback in midweek when they lost the first leg of their last-16 tie at Porto 1-0.
That result and performance were in stark contrast to the Gunners’ recent Premier League form. This is their first game back on home turf since the stirring 3-1 win over Liverpool, which was followed up by 6-0 and 5-0 victories on the road over West Ham and Burnley respectively.
Jurgen Klopp’s side being tied up with the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea this weekend means Arsenal know they can close to within two points of the summit with a win against a Newcastle team who beat them 1-0 at St James’ Park in November.

Arsenal vs Newcastle live updates, highlights, and commentary
69th minute: GOOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! Jakub Kiwior!!!
Arsenal go “bang, bang” again, as they did in the first half. It’s another devilishly delivered corner from Rice. Kiwior is the man with the near-post flick-on and it goes in via a touch off Miley.
65th minute: GOOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! Bukayo Saka!!!
Glorious goal from a glorious footballer. Rice and Havertz combine to find Saka. He twists one way and the other and clips a shot into the far corner. After Newcastle’s best spell of the contest, that completely kills it.
62nd minute: Raking ball from Guimaraes and Isak takes a dreamy first touch to fashion room and rifle over. That’s the sort of quality Newcastle can muster. It’s a shame it’s taken so long to see it. It looks like it might be Isak’s last involvement though. He’s just back to fitness and there’s activity on the Newcastle bench.
56th minute: Newcastle actually enjoying some prolonged possession in the Arsenal half. It’s all relatively harmless but the home team’s press has, somewhat inevitably, lost some of its bite. They were sensational during the first half.
49th minute: Couple of moments of vague encouragement for Newcastle. First Isak causes some trouble in the box and then Raya pouches a Gordon cross with the Sweden international lurking.
47th minute: Should be 3-0! Saka and Martinelli carve through Newcastle to play Havertz in. He elects not to try to round Havertz and slots just wide left-footed.
46th minute: We’re back underway. Will Newcastle be able to lay a glove on the imperious Gunners?
Halftime: Complete and utter domination from Arsenal. Another statement performance. If you take out the Porto display they’ve had quite a few of those lately. Just look at the statistics below. Utterly, utterly chastening for Newcastle.
Impressive from Arsenal in the opening 45 minutes; less so from Newcastle. The visitors still haven’t had a shot.

43rd minute: A Newcastle attack! As we live and breathe! Almiron darts through, takes too many touches and Raya gathers. Then the offside flag goes up. An attack in keeping with their overall efforts.
38th minute: Saka dances past Livramento, Gordon is back to help but doesn’t do too much good. The England star lets fly and Karius saves superbly. Newcastle survive another Arsenal corner more by luck than judgement.
37th minute: Rice wins the ball high up again. Havertz can’t capitalise as he takes poor touch and Miley sweeps in to win the ball.
34th minute: Odegaard’s cross is cleared by Schar. It’s only a temporary respite again. They just cannot get out or string any passes together to any meaningful extent. The Arsenal press is ravenous.
27th minute: Newcastle cannot get out. Schar passes straight to Odegaard near his own box. Longstaff makes a vital touch to deny Havertz. It’s a corner and Karius gets up to claim well.
24th minute: GOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! Kai Havertz!!!!
Glorious stuff from Arsenal and this could turn into a pasting. Jorginho lofts a sumptuous ball into the right channel, where a darting Martinelli is alive to the possibilities. He cuts back to leave a gleeful Havertz to dispatch his seventh of the season.

18th minute: GOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! Sven Botman (OG)!!!
Arsenal lead with another setpiece goal. Gabriel charged to the near post and glanced goalwards. Karius saved but the ball cannoned onto Livramento and a prone Botman and in. No more than Arsenal deserve and a wretched goal for an under-siege Newcastle to concede.

16th minute: Trippier sticks to his task well to thwart Martinelli. Now Livramento is forced to put it behind for a corner.
10th minute: Another near-post save from Karius, this time from Rice. The opening exchanges suggest he’ll only get busier.
8th minute: Saka gets goal side of Livramento, shifts the ball onto his left foot. The England winger’s deflected shot gives Karius his first work of the evening and he pouches unfussily.
2nd minute: Glancing header from White this time and it’s scrambled out of the goalmouth. Eddie Howe’s side might have to buckle up early on here.
1st minute: Off we go and Arsenal are straight into their work. Martinelli wins a left-wing corner. Newcastle clear as far as Rice, who wins another.
4 mins before kickoff: Here come the teams on a crisp north London evening. Arsenal produced a stirring performance in their previous home game against Liverpool. There’s a crackling atmosphere here. Can the Gunners produce a display to match once more?
25 mins before kickoff: Loris Karius then. This is his second Newcastle start. His first came in last season’s Carabao Cup final. His previous game for a Premier League club before that was the 2018 Champions League final for Liverpool against Real Madrid. Only gets out of bed for the big occasions!
