Rasmus Hojlund has been in superb form since December 26, 2023, when he grabbed his first Premier League goal with a fine finish against Aston Villa to seal three points for Manchester United.
That winning goal led to him scoring eight times in as many games and a run of at least one goal in six straight Premier League matches.
The signing of the striker, who only turned 21 at the beginning of February 2024, was seen as a huge gamble when United agreed to a fee that could rise to £72 million ($ 77m) to get him from Serie A side Atalanta last summer.
However, his recent form has coincided with an upturn in United’s results, and Hojlund is beginning to look like an elite-level centre-forward in the making in Manchester. Now, he could have his sights trained on the Premier League record for the most consecutive matches in which a player has scored.
The Sporting News takes a look at United’s upcoming fixtures and how many more consecutive matches Hojlund needs to score in to make that happen.

Most consecutive Premier League games scored in: Jamie Vardy holds record
Jamie Vardy holds the record for the highest number of consecutive Premier League games scored in by a single player.
The Leicester City striker scored in 11 consecutive league matches between August and November 2015, breaking the previous record of 10 set by Ruud van Nistelrooy, United’s former No. 10. The Dutchman’s tally spanned two seasons in 2003.

Vardy scored against United to break the record during Leicester’s unforgettable 2015/16 season in which they won the Premier League title as rank outsiders. Could Hojlund snatch it off the Englishman?
When could Hojlund break Vardy’s record?
If he is to break Vardy’s record, Hojlund will need to score in his next six league games. That means he could set a new Premier League benchmark against Chelsea on April 3, 2024.
Of course, he will need to score in every game until then. Let’s take a look at who United face in that timeframe.
With a brace against Luton, Hojlund became the youngest player ever to score in six consecutive league games. It would be some going if he could snatch Vardy’s record, too.

Rasmus Hojlund stats 2023/24 for Manchester United
United’s standout signing in last summer’s transfer window was the Danish forward, who cost the club an initial £64m fee upon his departure from Serie A side Atalanta. With a relatively low tally of nine goals in 32 appearances in Italy’s top flight, there was a sense of uncertainty surrounding the transfer.
The uncertainty escalated into a genuine worry when it took Hojlund a considerable 15 league matches to get his first goal in the Premier League, despite a commendable five goals in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.
However, following his breakthrough strike against Villa, Hojlund has since found his form and looks to be the player United believed they were signing back in August.
