All eyes in the golf world were on Charlie Woods on Thursday morning.
The son of the legendary Tiger Woods is still extremely early in his golf career, but thanks to his father, his name already stands out. The 15-year-old has competed at a number of events with Tiger, but he is getting ready to soon embark on his own journey on the PGA Tour.
Woods got his first crack at qualifying for a PGA Tour event Thursday as he teed off at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. He was participating in one of four pre-qualifying sites for the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic, which begins on Feb. 29.

The son of the 15-time major champion shot par on 11 of the 18 holes, but he added four bogeys and two double bogeys. He did not shoot under par on any of the holes, and he particularly struggled on the 7th hole, recording a 12 on the par 4.
Woods had a strong showing on the back nine, shooting just 4-over par (35 total) on the final nine holes. But he was unable to make up for his rocky start.
Did Charlie Woods qualify for the Cognizant Classic?
With his score of 86, Woods did not qualify for the Cognizant Classic. So fans will have to wait to see his PGA Tour debut.
Woods would have had to finish in the top five at the pre-qualifier in order to advance to Monday’s qualifying round for the Cognizant Classic. So even a strong performance Thursday would not have guaranteed his first appearance at a PGA Tour event.
What is the Cognizant Classic?
The Cognizant Classic is a PGA Tour event that is held in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The tournament, founded in 1972, was known as the Jackie Gleason Inverrary Classic before Honda took over as the title sponsor in 1982. The competition was known as the Honda Classic from 1982 to 2023. This marks the first year for Cognizant as the sponsor.
The par-70 course is located at the PGA National Resort and Spa.
