An actress-turned-YouTuber is facing backlash from the public over an unexpected “fart controversy.”
The controversy of the female YouTuber, identified as “A,” came to light on February 13, KST, after local media outlets reported that she got involved in an incident of verbally abusing and swearing at a taxi driver.
Reports state that “A” boarded the taxi of “B” on the Lunar New Year holiday on February 10 while she was on a livestream. After getting into the car, “A” asked “B,” “I’m sorry, but did you dart? Why does it smell like that.” She proceeded to claim that she saw “B” fart despite him denying it, and the two got into an argument.
“A” also repeatedly interrupted “B” while he was driving, saying she would get off the running taxi. Finally, she pointed the camera at him, which enraged “B” so much that he hit the camera.
“A” reportedly told the police, “Why was he so angry? Can’t I even ask?” She also kept filming the taxi driver. When police reached the scene, “A” was seen hurling verbal abuses at the man, and she allegedly also tried insulting him, saying, “This is why you’re a taxi driver.”
Netizens were enraged by this incident and criticized the YouTuber for humiliating the driver, that too on the auspicious day of Seollal. Many also called out the silent onlookers caught on the livestream.
Meanwhile, according to South Korean laws, assaulting a bus or taxi driver while they are operating a vehicle can result in up to 5 years of prison term. Though it is unclear whether there are any ongoing legal procedures against “A,” netizens hoped that she would be punished appropriately.
