Three last-place finishes in four years haven’t bred confidence in Boston, but everyone has some measure of hope in the spring and Red Sox fans are no different.
Though there are plenty of questions about the starting pitching in particular, the Sox still have Rafael Devers and will hope to see Triston Casas and Jarren Duran build on strong 2023 seasons.
The Red Sox made a couple of significant offseason trades, sending veteran starter Chris Sale to the Braves for young infielder Vaughn Grissom and acquiring outfielder Tyler O’Neill from the Cardinals for two pitchers, and also signed right-hander Lucas Giolito to lead the rotation.
In addition to Sale, Alex Verdugo, Justin Turner, Adam Duvall, Corey Kluber and James Paxton have moved on, giving Boston a younger look entering this season under a revamped front office led by Craig Breslow.

Red Sox spring training schedule 2024
Red Sox pitchers and catchers will hold their first workouts on Wednesday, Feb. 14, with the first full-squad workout to follow on Monday, Feb. 19.
Games begin four days later with an exhibition against Northeastern University on Friday, Feb. 24 before the Grapefruit League season opens the following day against the Orioles in Sarasota.
There are a couple of wrinkles in Boston’s spring training schedule this year: the Red Sox will travel to the Dominican Republic for games against the Rays in Santo Domingo March 9 and 10. They will then close out their exhibition slate with games against the Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, March 25 and 26.
Baseball fans making the trek for spring training can score tickets for every game on StubHub.
