Iowa point guard Caitlin Clark is having another exceptional season and is getting closer to passing the NCAA women’s basketball career scoring record. Several sportsbooks are offering odds on when Clark will break the benchmark set by Kelsey Plum.
When a team has a player having such a memorable season, it might be a good idea to look at team-related futures markets, i.e., odds to win the national championship and odds of winning its conference.
Sportsbooks offer odds on Caitlin Clark breaking NCAAW scoring record
Here are odds from three college basketball betting sites, Bet365, DraftKings, and FanDuel:
In which game will Caitlin Clark score her 3,528th career point?
- Feb. 3 vs. Maryland +8000 (Bet365)
- On or before Feb. 8 vs. Penn State +20000 (DraftKings)
- Feb. 11 vs. Nebraska +800 (Bet365)
- Feb. 15 vs Michigan −150 (DraftKings)
- Feb. 22 vs. Indiana +280 (DraftKings)
- Feb. 25 vs. Illinois +2000 (DraftKings)
- Feb. 28 vs. Minnesota +6000 (DraftKings)
- Mar. 3 vs. Ohio State +15000 (DraftKings)
- Caitlin Clark to not score her 3528th career point during the 2023-24 Regular Season +3000 (DraftKings)
As of Jan. 21, after hanging 45 on Ohio State, her a career total sits at 3,351 points. So, she needs 176 points to match the record (3,527) and 177 to break it.
Based off her season average (31.7 ppg) she’ll break the mark late in the game against Michigan on Feb. 15. But if you use her average in conference play (33.1 ppg), she’ll still break it vs. Michigan but during the first half.
But her scoring average is not the only thing bettors may want to factor in:
- Four of her next seven games are against three of the top defenses in the Big Ten (Michigan—No. 1, Nebraska—No. 4, and Indiana– No.3). However, the other three are against some of the worst defenses in the conference.
- The team could sit her if she suffers a minor injury (because they don’t want to risk further injury).
- She could blow up against the lesser defenses (i.e., Northwestern, Maryland, and Penn State).
Clark could get pulled early in blowouts, go cold for a game or two, or miss a game or two. Plenty of things ‘may’ happen and delay her breaking the record, but they just as easily may not.
Bettors can also odds for the type of shot she’ll break the record with (via DraftKings and FanDuel), the quarter in which she does it (FanDuel), and the kind of shot and quarter (FanDuel).

Caitlin Clark bets to consider
If you’re looking to take a shot on the timing of Caitlin Clark setting a new scoring record, consider these options:
All signs point to Clark breaking the career scoring record at some point during the Michigan game on Feb. 15. But the 8-to-1 odds on the Feb. 11 vs. Nebraska are enticing in case she picks up the pace, and value also could be found in the Feb. 22 vs. Indiana.
Iowa plays three of the Big Ten’s worst defenses in the next four games. Clark could blow up for a big night in each and possibly break the record vs. Penn State. So, consider taking a flyer on:
- On or before Feb. 8 vs. Penn State +20000 (DraftKings).
Iowa women’s hoops odds: Hawkeyes trail South Carolina, LSU on NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament futures board
Here are odds to win the 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament from our favorite sports betting sites. South Carolina is the favorite, followed LSU and then Iowa:
Iowa’s odds to win Big Ten -180 (FanDuel)
The Hawkeyes made it to the national championship game last season (where they lost to LSU, 102-85). While they lost a couple of good players from that squad, they still have Clark. Iowa will remain in the national championship conversation as long as she is healthy.
Clark could lead them to victory, but banking on one player to win a national championship is not wise. She could do it, but Iowa would have a better shot if a couple of other players could step up and take some of the scoring burden off her.
Only two other players average double-digit points per game (Hannah Stuelke, 13 ppg and Kate Martin, 12.1 ppg)
As for the Big Ten title, they have the offense to win it. But whether they have the defense remains to be seen.
How to bet Iowa women’s basketball futures
Assuming Iowa continues to win games, their national championship odds will only get shorter. Good arguments can be made for a few other teams as well.
But if you are thinking about betting on Iowa to win it all, now may be the time to do so before their odds get shorter.
As for their conference odds, they appear to be on track to win the Big Ten, but there isn’t any value in betting on them at minus odds.
