YG Entertainment has seemingly made a quiet statement about BIGBANG‘s status with the label.
BIGBANG is one of the OG groups responsible for making K-Pop what it is today. Originally five members, BIGBANG is now made up of G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung following T.O.P‘s exit and Seungri‘s crimes.
Many would consider BIGBANG as having helped “make” YG Entertainment into the company it is today as one of their most popular and successful groups. After June 2023, when G-Dragon’s contract with the label expired, no BIGBANG members actually remained under the company.
This has happened before, and usually, like in the case of BLACKPINK, the members will sign elsewhere for their activities while working with their original label for group promotions.
This was thought to be what BIGBANG may do until a recent website update gave fans pause on these thoughts.
After their contracts ended as individuals, the group members were no longer listed on YG’s website, but the group category remained. On January 11, fans noticed that BIGBANG were no longer listed on YG Entertainment’s website as artists.
YG Entertainment owns the rights to BIGBANG, so this disappearance could be because the group’s members are working behind the scenes to own the rights, like in the case of GOT7. The company’s rights to the group are also said to be ending this year.
Others hope this is a sign that the group have “freedom” from the company.
YG Entertainment deleted all BIGBANG related stuff from their website and social media. Is this Freedom?
I pray that BIGBANG members will buy the rights to the name of the group, any of them please buy BIGBANG name fully 🙏🏻🤲🏻 pic.twitter.com/xCNS40abDz
