Former T-ARA’s Areum, who was on trial for charges of child abuse and defamation, has been sentenced to a suspended prison sentence.
On January 16, the Suwon District Court sentenced Areum to eight months in prison with two years of probation and 40 hours of child abuse prevention classes on charges of emotionally abusing a child and defamation.
She is accused of using profanity against her former husband in front of the children and defaming individual A on an internet broadcast, who released a court ruling regarding her boyfriend.
She admits to all the charges. She should be criticized for causing mental damage to the legal guardian of the victimized child.

Regarding defamation, the court revealed that although “there was no intention to defame the victim, she made a statement that the verdict was manipulated without making any effort to confirm the facts.” They added that “it was judged that there was an intentional act.”
Additionally, the court also sentenced her mother, on charges of child abuse, to four months in prison and one year of probation.
Her mother was brought to trial on charges of neglecting her grandchildren by allowing them to live in an environment where Areum verbally abused her ex-husband.
