A young woman has been sentenced to 15 years in jail after she killed her father, according to reports from July 17, KST.
The Ulsan District Court found the defendant, a woman in her 20s, guilty of killing an ascendant, which warrants a harsher punishment than murder under the Criminal Act. She was also ordered to wear an electronic tracking anklet for ten years after her release.
While deciding on the sentence, the court said it took into consideration that the defendant has shown remorse about her actions, along with the fact that she suffers from various mental conditions, including schizophrenia.
The defendant stabbed her father 60-something father to death in January at their home in Dong-gu Ulsan. The father had reportedly scolded her for destroying a chair, saying, “We would have to admit you to a hospital if you keep doing this.” In response, she stabbed him once in the neck with a knife, but her mother took it away and went outside to report to authorities. The woman, however, procured another knife and continued the stabbing.
It is highly likely that when the crime occurred, the woman was suffering through schizophrenic hallucinations as she told investigators that she committed the crime because “the world is fake, and Dad is fake.” After the full investigation, it was revealed that the woman had been suffering from visual and auditory hallucinations. She also has a criminal history, including assaulting her mother and threatening a stranger.
