SBS‘s new K-Drama, Good Partner, premiered on July 12, 2024 (KST), with solid viewer ratings for the first and second episodes. Starting with 7.8% and leading with 8.7% viewership, Good Partner is off to a strong start…
…despite some clash over idol-turned-actor BLOCK B P.O (also known as Pyo Ji Hoon)’s acting skills for the role of Jung Eun Ho.
Some viewers found P.O’s acting to be subpar…
- “Good Partner is good. Also, P.O’s acting isn’t that terrible. Leave him alone, LOL.”
- “He’s OK, though.”
- “If this is considered OK, then please stop criticizing other actors’ acting skills as well…”
- “It’s fine, IMO. He did improve a lot.”
- “He’s not the most natural. But it’s not like he’s ruining the show. Had he been a leading role, his acting skills might have been a bit problematic. But he’s a supporting character. Let him be. Some lead actors also have terrible acting skills, so… Perhaps everyone should work on honing their skills.”
- “It’s all good and fun to me. He’s a cheeky side character anyway.”
- “After seeing the comments, I expected his acting to be horrendous. But now that I’ve watched a scene, IDK. I don’t hate it. And… TBH, do we really need to be so picky about how he breathes or how he pronounces the words, etc.? Over a K-Drama, really?”
- “It’s all right, I think.”
- “For a supporting role, it’s fine.”
- “P.O’s acting is fine. Watch the show, it’s good.”
- “The show’s good! The divorce case featured in Episode 2 was perfect. Give it a go!”
…while others argued that there has been great improvements since his earlier works like Hotel Del Luna.
- “Was he so bad that he needs to be criticized this harshly? Everyone is so mean to P.O for some reason.”
- “I think he’s OK. I can’t quite tell why everyone says his acting is awkward.”
- “He’s fine.”
- “He got a lot better. His acting in Hotel Del Luna did shock me quite a bit, so…”
- “C’mon. There are tons of actors who would do a better job than P.O…”
- “I don’t think he’s good, necessarily… He’s just okay. Enough to look past it for the sake of the show.”
- “He’s horrible. I can’t believe some people think this is acceptable. How fascinating.”
- “It doesn’t bother me too much, but that’s about it.”
- “His tone and pronunciation are butchered… People really think this is OK?”
- “In Hotel Del Luna, I was like, ‘What’s wrong with his acting?’ But in this show, he’s OK… I think. I haven’t watched the other episode, so I can’t really tell.”
- “He’s all right. It’s not to the point that it breaks the show.”
- “I like P.O’s acting style because it’s not theatrical, like forced or fake. He makes it super natural, IMO.”
Regardless, the show is anticipated to see continued growth in viewership—as the main leads, Jang Na Ra and Nam Ji Hyun, butt heads and the plot thickens.
