The Boston Red Sox played their Thursday afternoon matchup against the Cleveland Guardians without third baseman Rafael Devers, who has been dealing with a knee injury.
Following the loss, Red Sox manager Alex Cora told the media that Devers has a bone bruise and isn’t expected to need a stay on the injured list.
This is good news for Boston, as Devers has been in and out of the lineup with some regularity this season, and they’ve already lost a number of players to injuries so far in 2024.
The 27-year-old has been struggling early this year while playing through the knee and shoulder injuries. He’s hitting just .188 with a .703 OPS while playing in 13 of the team’s 20 games.
If he can get healthy, he should be able to help pick up Boston’s lineup, which has been quiet for stretches already.
