From idols to actors, celebrities are trendsetters, but sometimes they don’t set trends intentionally.
Chinese actress, singer, and model Dilraba Dilmurat is making headlines for an unexpected reason. The star’s recent photoshoot has started the so-called “angel squat” pose trend.
During a shoot for L’officiel China‘s March 2024 issue, Dilraba Dilmurat squatted on her tiptoes while dressed as a beautiful angel. The pose might look effortless, but it requires good balance and strength to achieve.
The pose has taken off in mainland China, with many netizens sharing their attempts on social media. These attempts, more often than not, have humorous outcomes.
Poor squat versus Dilraba’s angel squat. When she squats, it’s like an angel coming down to Earth, but when I do it, it looks like I’m preparing to use a squat toilet.

Health experts, however, are voicing their concerns about injuries by using the trending hashtag #WhyYouShouldn’tTryDilraba’sAngelSquat. They say that people who are not used to holding such poses could potentially fall, damage their joints, or injure the arches of their feet.
When joining a trend, safety should always come first!
