Liverpool can apply some pressure to Premier League title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal if they can beat Brentford in Saturday’s early kickoff.
The Reds responded to their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the beginning of February by beating Burnley by the same scoreline a week ago. That meant they entered this matchweek with a two-point lead at the top of the table.
However, given that City have a game in hand, anything other than a win for Jurgen Klopp’s men in London will give the reigning champions the chance to move back to the summit if they can claim maximum points at home to Chelsea later.
Brentford start the day only six points outside the relegation zone, so a defeat here will leave them looking over their shoulders. They can, at least, take some confidence from having defeated Wolves 2-0 at Molineux last time out.
The reverse fixture at Anfield ended 3-0 to Liverpool in November last year, but Brentford were 3-1 winners in this game at the Gtech Community Stadium last season.
