Late in the Knicks’ win over the Heat on Jan. 27, two-time All-NBA forward Julius Randle went down with an apparent shoulder injury after taking a scary fall. Randle, who drew a foul on the play, did not stay in to shoot his free throws, instead exiting the game for good.
Randle’s injury comes as the Knicks have posted a 12-2 record in the new year. He joins center Mitchell Robinson, who is likely out for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, on New York’s inactive list.

What is Julius Randle’s injury?
Randle’s injury has been ruled as a dislocated right shoulder.
Randle suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of New York’s win over Miami on Saturday, Jan. 27 when Heat forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. attempted to draw a charge. As Randle rose for a layup, the collision caused him to fall directly on his right shoulder.

Randle finished the game with 19 points, nine rebounds and three assists. This season, he is averaging 24.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.

How long is Julius Randle out?
The time Randle misses is dependent on the severity of his shoulder injury.
Randle’s X-ray did not show much damage, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Randle is set to undergo an MRI that will further identify the extent of his injury.
Concerning Randle, the MRI will determine the next steps and treatment options. Injury analyst Jeff Stotts has noted that the average time missed for a nondescript shoulder dislocation is 31 days (11.7 games), but the MRI will determine whether or not Randle has any associated soft tissue damage in a shoulder ligament.
