The 2023 FIFA Club World Cup will be the final time the competition is played out in its current format ahead of a controversial expansion in 2025.
FIFA’s decision to increase the number of teams competing to 32 has been met with a mixed response, with the 2024 tournament cancelled as FIFA prepares to unveil a new-look tournament in two years’ time.
Premier League attention on the 2023 edition will be focused on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, and their club debut on this stage, following a first Champions League title win in 2023.
Copa Libertadores winners Fluminense will also be taking part, as will Al Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League. It means we could see a reunion of former Real Madrid stars Karim Benzema and Marcelo.

When is the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup?
The FIFA Club World Cup 2023 will be staged across 10 days from December 12 to December 22.
The competition starts with a first-round game featuring Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad and OFC Champions League winners Auckland City on December 12.
That is followed by two second-round matches, a semifinal, third-place playoff and final, with Manchester City joining at the semifinal stage.
All games are straight knockout matches, with 30 minutes of extra time and penalty shootouts in place in the event of draws.

FIFA Club World Cup 2023 venues, stadiums, host city
The FIFA Club World Cup 2023 features seven games in total, all of which will be staged in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah.
Jeddah provides two host venues for the competition including the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium — home to Al Ittihad and the Saudi Arabia national team — and the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium. The two stadiums have respective capacities of 62,345 and 27,000.

Six of the seven qualifiers secured their place at the FIFA Club World Cup 2023 as champions of their primary continental club tournament.
Manchester City’s 2022/23 UEFA Champions League final triumph over Inter Milan sealed their spot with Fluminense’s 2023 Copa Libertadores win over Boca Juniors confirming them as the CONMEBOL representative.
Al Ittihad have qualified as a club representative of the host nation with Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds the defending AFC Champions League winners.
